The Chemistry of Snowflakes, Bytesize Science
NASA is pretty sure the world’s not ending on December 21, 2012 that they released a video for 12.22.2012 explaining why we’re still around. So, depending on the circumstance you’re in, you’d still be frolicking here on Earth, or despairing why, oh why the world didn’t end. Perhaps this could allay some fears and anxieties because a lot of people are freaking out. But of course, this video was rejected and maligned by some, with one You Tube commenter saying the reason for this advanced release is that NASA’s really afraid people won’t’ be around to watch this video after December 21 so publishing it early is a good idea.
From bamboo, logs, and other scraps, you can build mini hotels for the wild, solitary bees and invite them to come over and experience the amenities they probably need. The bees continue to dwindle and maybe these bee hotels could provide some protection and some encouragement for them to reproduce. Place the hotel in a place that gets a lot of sunshine but protected from rain.

This video was shown at the TED conference in 2011, with scenes from “Wings of Life,”a film about the threat to essential pollinators that produce over a third of the food we eat. The seductive love dance between flowers and pollinators sustains the fabric of life and is the mystical keystone event where the animal and plant worlds intersect that make the world go round. — from director and cinematographer Louie Schwartzberg.
I replayed it twice because I couldn’t get enough of it. I think I’d be watching it time and again, to re-experience its magic and sublimity.
